Understanding Honeybees from the Perspective of the Wild

March 19 @ 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm PDT

$20.00 – $35.00

This transformative workshop is the first in a series of six sessions, outlining Apis Arborea’s innovative approach to regenerative apiculture and wilding. Participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of honeybees in their natural habitats, exploring animal ethics, novel biodynamic methods, deep ecology, and biomimicry. In this first session, we will learn about the life cycles and living conditions of wild, unmanaged honeybees. We will explore the intricate make-up and qualities of the apian organism and explore their biology, and innate behaviors. By examining historical contexts and new perspectives, the workshop aims to reframe our approach to beekeeping and conservation. Our guiding question will be that of how can we gain deeper insight about honeybees by learning from them as a wild species? We will examine:

  • Life cycles and impulses
  • The microbiome of bees and new perspectives such as the holobiont
  • Nest dynamics and the proposed term ‘Tissue’
  • The expression of will, agency, and sentience in these remarkable creatures

This live-streamed event fosters interactive learning and vibrant discourse, welcoming participants of all experience levels. Led by Michael Thiele and the team of Apis Arborea, the sessions will cultivate a deeper connection with the wisdom of wild honeybees, inspiring a reimagining of apiculture practices in harmony with natural ecosystems. Recordings will be available after each individual session. Scholarships are available upon request.
