EcoFarm Conference

January 23 @ 3:30 pm - 5:00 pm

Bees and Pollinators in the Wild and “Wilding”

Long-term pollinator resilience is critical for farmers, gardeners, and communities. This session explores two complementary approaches to this goal. First, LocApiary—a project of Apis Arborea—promotes the “wilding” of honeybees by restoring natural nesting ecologies at the watershed scale. Through practical habitat-restoration tools, LocApiary supports self-sustaining networks of unmanaged honeybee populations embedded in local ecosystems. The session then turns to how farmers and gardeners can actively support native bees and other pollinators, enabling them to provide the essential functions that underlie food production and healthy landscapes. Moderator: Ann Baier, NCAT/ATTRA
Speakers: Michael Thiele, Apis Arborea (Sebastopol, CA); Deedee Soto, Xerces Society (Merced, CA)
