Designing and Building TreeNests using Biomimicry
June 12, 2024 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm PDT

Biomimicry is a critical component that allows us to tap into the deep wisdom of nature in our actions and efforts to support populations of local honeybees to thrive. In this course segment we will go step by step through the process of building natural TreeNests (aka log hives) and share lots of video footage, necessary tools, and other resources. We will explore various arboreal hive/nest designs and integrate groundbreaking research data and fundamental changes in life sciences as resources for a paradigm shift in apicultural strategies in the Anthropocene.
We also will look at the reemergence of ancient and traditional ways of apiculture, such as the “Zeidler-craft” of caring for bees in living trees. The wilding of honeybees and nest restoration are becoming increasingly essential for honeybees to survive. As wild bees survive in non-managed ecosystems and nest sites, they represent a resource for new strategies for apiculture and a fundamental shift in bee stewardship.

This live stream event promises to cultivate an environment conducive to interactive learning and robust discourse, fostering vibrant exchanges among participants irrespective of their level of beekeeping expertise. Join us in reimagining the future of beekeeping, harmonizing with the wisdom of the natural world.
This is the forth of 7 sessions that also can be booked individually. Each session will be recorded and a link shared with participants. Scholarships available per request.
